Andrea's Story: Finding Purpose and Family at KenCCID

Thirteen years ago, Andrea began a new chapter at KenCCID. After spending many years working in various fields, she was ready for a career change when KenCCID was recommended as a place where she could use her diverse skills to make a difference.
Andrea initially believed her experience would allow her to enhance the lives of the individuals KenCCID serves. Over time, however, she discovered that the experience was also enriching her own life.
Beginning as a supervisor, Andrea gained a deeper understanding of the intellectual and developmental disabilities field and the unique challenges faced by the individuals KenCCID supports. Along the way, she was continually inspired by the resilience, compassion, and determination demonstrated by those she served.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Andrea’s experience has been the genuine relationships she has formed over the years. The individuals KenCCID serves look forward to seeing familiar staff members, creating a strong sense of connection and belonging. For some, KenCCID staff members become an important part of their support system and extended family, making those relationships especially meaningful.
Throughout her 13 years with KenCCID, Andrea has worked in many of the organization’s residential homes and has had the opportunity to support numerous individuals. Each experience has brought new lessons, challenges, and rewarding moments.
That same sense of community extends to her fellow employees. Challenging situations are part of the work, but having supportive colleagues has made a meaningful difference. Andrea has found that team members work together, encourage one another, and provide assistance when it is needed most.
Andrea’s opportunity to work alongside KenCCID’s office staff also provided another perspective on the organization’s commitment to those it serves. What stood out most to her was how personally connected staff members were to the individuals supported by KenCCID. They knew individuals by name and by sight, understood their personalities, welcomed them into their offices, and knew how to provide appropriate support when needed.
Over the years, the opportunities, benefits, relationships, and support Andrea has experienced at KenCCID have made her 13 years feel as though they have passed incredibly quickly. What started as a career change became an opportunity to find purpose, build lasting relationships, and become part of a close-knit community.
After 13 rewarding years, Andrea remains grateful for her journey and excited to see what the years ahead will bring at KenCCID.
