Pennsylvania Celebrates Direct Support Professional Recognition Week
At KenCCID, we know that Direct Support Professionals are at the heart of the work we do every day. Their compassion, dedication, and commitment help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism live fuller, more independent, and more connected lives.
We are proud to share that, at the request of PAR (Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability), Governor Josh Shapiro has signed a proclamation officially recognizing September 13–19, 2026, as Direct Support Professional Recognition Week in Pennsylvania.
The Governor’s proclamation recognizes the essential role DSPs play in supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals with disabilities. From assisting with daily needs and personal care to supporting employment, community activities, medical care, and meaningful relationships, DSPs make an extraordinary difference in the lives of the people they serve.
The proclamation also acknowledges something we see firsthand at KenCCID: DSPs do far more than provide services. They build trusted relationships, encourage independence, create opportunities, strengthen connections with family and community, and help make inclusion possible.
