Giving Back With Purpose: KenCCID Volunteers at Purple House Project

Small Actions Can Make a Meaningful Difference
Giving your time to help someone else can be powerful.
KenCCID individuals recently had the opportunity to put that idea into action while volunteering with Purple House Project PA. Through KenCCID’s Community Participation Support (CPS) Program, individuals and staff worked side by side to prepare personal care kits that will help support the organization’s work in the community.
The day provided an opportunity to contribute to an important cause while building skills, working as a team, and experiencing the satisfaction that comes from helping others.
Working Together, One Kit at a Time
Everyone had a role to play as the group assembled personal care kits filled with essential hygiene items. Individuals helped organize and package toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other personal care products, folded mini towels, placed items into bags, and added labels to complete each kit.
The activity encouraged teamwork, focus, organization, and hands-on participation while giving individuals the chance to see how their efforts could benefit someone else.
And after a job well done, everyone had a chance to relax and enjoy pizza and Sprite together for lunch!
Supporting a Mission of Strength and Empowerment
The experience was especially meaningful because of the work behind the Purple House Project. The organization’s mission is to strengthen, empower, and support the transition of women impacted by intimate partner violence by connecting them with essential resources that can aid in the healing process.
Its values—including dignity, the importance of human relationships, collaboration, lifelong learning, honoring each person’s individual process, and self-care—make opportunities like assembling personal care kits about much more than simply putting supplies into bags.
Each completed kit represents care, dignity, and support for someone in the community.
CPS: Connecting Through Experiences That Matter
At KenCCID, connection begins with participation.
Our Community Participation Support (CPS) Program is designed to help individuals become active participants in their communities while discovering interests, developing skills, forming relationships, and enjoying experiences that encourage purpose and personal growth.
Community participation can take many forms—from outings and recreation, arts and cultural experiences, and health and wellness activities to social events, life skills development, and volunteer opportunities like this one.
What matters is giving each individual opportunities to participate in ways that are meaningful to them.
When Participation Becomes Purpose
Volunteering adds another dimension to community participation: the opportunity to give back.
During this experience, KenCCID individuals weren't simply participating in an activity—they were helping prepare resources for people who may need them. Their time and effort became part of something larger.
That is what makes community partnerships so valuable. They create opportunities for individuals to discover that they have something meaningful to contribute while helping organizations meet real needs within the community.
We are proud of everyone who participated and grateful to Purple House Project for providing an opportunity where our individuals could work together, contribute, and make an impact.
Because being part of a community also means having the opportunity to give back to it.
